K. Annamalai, former IPS officer and Tamil Nadu politician

  • Full name: Kuppusamy Annamalai
  • Date of birth: 4 June 1984
  • Place of origin: Karur district, Tamil Nadu.
  • Education: Engineering (B.E.) from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore.
    Post-graduate management (MBA or PGDM) from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow.
  • Social background: Agricultural family.
  • Joined the Indian Police Service (IPS), 2011 batch (Karnataka cadre).
  • Held postings in Karnataka: e.g., Superintendent of Police for Udupi District and Chikkamagaluru District;
    later Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Bengaluru).
  • Gained reputation as a “tough cop” in Karnataka, sometimes referred to as “Singham of Karnataka Police”.
  • Resigned from IPS service in or around 2019.
  • On 25 August 2020, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
    Later became State President of BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit (youngest to hold that position in that party in TN).
